During Feb and Mar 2012, in collaboration with the Kelly Writers House, we will be hosting materials for

Philadelphia Lawyer (clever, shrewd attorney) :
Poet = Ped[et al.]agog = Idea[l]log ?

a talk series exploring the competing ideologies investing differential practices of critique in Philadelphia, at the University of Pennsylvania, of the KWH, or elsewhere. We welcome submissions of essais that enact complication between university scholarship and its "alternatives".

Talks will take place on February 23 and March 22, at KWH, hosted by CARA BENSON, in collaboration with speakers MARCELLA DURAND and PATTIE MCCARTHY.

Practice-based criticism is a 3-step process:

Maybe one of the best descriptions I’ve heard so far is this:

“Yet, nearly everyone who listens to the pitch ends up being fucking beautifully open to the idea and participating. That is, people don’t seem to have any hang-ups about busting up bourgeois narrative structure to revel in chance or about subverting the single-author/genius function to celebrate community. They just want in on the fun beauty action!”

Practice-based criticism is receiving art like receiving a letter that you can’t wait to answer – and then you do answer it. You send something back (via world).
